Puzzleheart is here!

My latest middle-grade book, Puzzleheart, is coming in May.
A mansion sits in a snowy landscape. Through a heart-shaped cutout, we see two kids exploring the many fantastical rooms.

Hello, friends! I had so many things I wanted to tell you about at the beginning of the year, that I told you about none of them. (Thanks, brain, you ol' jerk.) So now we’re five months in to 2024, on the eve of my next book release.

A hardcover copy of my book, Puzzleheart, sits on a bright yellow table under the shade of a tree. A sculpted dragon lurks behind it.
Cover art by Chan Chau. Dragon sculpture by me.

last chance to pre-order

The hours are ticking away, and if you want to pre-order from Annie Bloom’s (for free bookmarks I drew) or anywhere else (for my eternal thanks), then hop to it!

some lovely reviews

Kirkus review: “Fans of escape rooms and family stories will find much to love in this heartfelt tale.”

Publishers Weekly review: “…emotionally cathartic and puzzle-laden story of trauma and healing.”

Booklist review: “…part Westing Game, part Winchester Mystery House…perilous, intriguing, full of great conversations about kids who shoulder the emotions of their parents…”

School Library Journal: “A wily 12-year-old, painful family secrets, and an eerie possessed house—this twisty mystery is great for genre fans.”

Literary Hub: “Jenn Reese’s emotionally honest depictions of the ways we hurt and help the people we love will stick with readers for a long time to come.”

Plus, I did a very fun interview with Pine Reads:

A graphic with a picture of my face and a cover of my book with the words "Interview with Jenn Reese."
Fun fact: I ran some of my answers to these questions by my therapist during our session, just to make sure. Therapists = THE BEST.

and finally…

That’s all I’ve got today, but hopefully now that I’ve broken the newsletter ice once again, I’ll be back to more regular updates. (Like the fact that I just sent the draft of a second picture book to my editor. Fingers crossed!!)

Thanks for reading, friends. I will leave you with the dedication of Puzzleheart, because it bears repeating.

Gratefully,
Jenn

The text reads: "For everyone who thinks they're broken. (Spoiler: You aren't.)"
