Seven Ways is finally here!

My smiling face in front of a dozen copies of Seven Ways Through the Woods.
A happy goofball.

Picture books take a loooong time to make, but oh, they are so worth the wait. I am thrilled to pieces with everything about this book. (And I don't even hate the text, which is often the case with my novels by the time they come out.)

Accolades

Seven Ways Through the Woods picked up a little attention before release:

Starred review from Kirkus
Excellent reviews from Publishers Weekly and Booklist
Kids' Indie Next List selection
Amazon Editor's Pick
"Can I please please please live in these Woods? This story and illustrations are so lush and breathtaking, I can not wait to share this with the world." --Rebecca Crosswhite, Rediscovered Books, Boise ID

Perhaps (definitely) more important, some of my friends have now read the book and said wonderful things. In response to a post on Facebook, I wrote:

"I wrote it during the pandemic, during burnout, and it really helped me to remember that there is often beauty/magic where we are, not just where we're going."

That's the essence right there. I hope it resonates.

The art process

Greenwillow, my publisher, had a wonderful newsletter issue with process photos from the book where you can see some of artist Devin Elle Kurtz's initial sketches and cover ideas.

Under the Greenwillow ~ August 2025
We can’t believe it, but summer seems to be almost over, and kids everywhere are either getting ready for or are already back at school!
Sketches of a girl bowing to a large flower, and then the flower showering her with sparkles.
Just one sample of Devin's artwork from the newsletter.

Thank you

To everyone who posted, cheered, shared, and generally supported me and my career. You made my launch day a joy. And an especially big thanks to those who pre-ordered. I signed your books with literal tears in my eyes.

Gratefully,
